The Good, The Bad, The Ugly
Opinion
San Antonio-(RYM)-What can you say about week 5 other than WOW!!!!!!!! Let us just get into the The Good, The Bad, The Ugly.
Rams 26, Seahawks 17
Aaron Donald 88.5 sacks a new Rams record CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
Good:
Even with discomfort from his finger in his throwing hand Matthew Stafford still went for 365, Stafford was able to get the ball to everyone allowing for a total of 476 total offensive yards. One can say they had a good night even hurt. Congrats to Aaron Donald for his franchise record-setting sack he has now 88.5 in his career.
Never count out Seattle as long as Russell Wilson is under center. He was able to get ahead with 2:45 left in the game, had he not gotten hurt they could have pulled of the win.
Bad:
The Rams played great in the second half but the first half was just bad and were bailed out with Wilson getting hurt, being held to just 3 points for only the 5th time under Sean McVay is huge. Yes, a lot of people are saying well Stafford was hurt but they couldn't even get the ball running to take pressure off Stafford, this is something they are going to have to work on because they won't be that lucky always.
Wilson hurt his finger and was not able to keep going so Geno Smith was called into action and even though he went 5 for 5 and 72 yards which to give them a chance to win the game the fact that he only has 5 total passes since 2019 does not make for a winning combination.
Ugly:
The Seahawks now have a huge problem, Russell Wilson is going to be out for at least 3 weeks, can they win with Geno Smith and right the ship or will this be a downfall for Seattle?
Overall:
The Rams got lucky, but are as good as advertised. The Seahawks have not many questions to feel okay with anything right now.
Falcons 27, Jets 20
NFL in London, I love it!!!
Good:
Matt Ryan made history in London by surpassing Eli Manning for the 8th-most passing yard in the NFL, and they got the W? That is a fun trip across the pond.
The Jets might have found an RB to count on Michael Carter balled out vs the Titans and again vs The Falcons with 1 rushing TD in each of those games, his no solution but they need to feed him so they can start moving the ball.
Bad:
The Falcons played great and made changes during the game on both offense and defense to move forward but even then they still manage to almost let a game go in the second half, I am just not sure how they can fix this lucky for them they faced The Jets cause I am not sure they pull the win vs anyone else.
The Jets just know how to make history in the worst way, they now hold the longest active streak in the NFL for allowing a Sack with 40 straight games. At this point, it is not on the players or coaches but the front office for not allowing an environment that allows people to grow and become great players.
Ugly:
The Jets winning last week was a fluke and it is more on The Titans played horrible than The Jets played great. They just need to start over simple as that.
Overall:
The Falcons took a trip across the pond and got a win, while The Jets just proved that last week was a fluke.
Packers 25, Bengals 22-OT
6 missed Field Goals and Extra Points! WOW!!!!!
Good:
The Packers are rolling along with Aaron Jones, Davante Adams, and of course Aaron Rodgers they had a slow start but were able to move the ball and stay in the game.
Joe Burrow is joining HOF company with his performance. He joins Dan Marino as the only 2nd-year QBs in the Super Bowl era with 2+ pass TD in each of their team's first 5 games of a season. We cannot forget the connection between him and Ja'Marr Chase is getting better every single game they are going to be trouble for many years to come.
Bad:
Mason Crosby missed 3 FG in the last 10 minutes of the game bring his streak of 27 straight FG to an end, he was able to pull it together at the end to win the game but could this be something to worry about?
The Bengals played lights out and in the end, special teams were the downfall with 2 miss field goals that could have won the game, even with that they are heading in the right direction and should be happy with making The Packers go to OT.
Ugly:
6 missed FG/XP, I am not sure what to think of that, but it was ugly.
Overall:
The Packers won but special teams are something to worry about because if they won't always be that lucky. Let us give a huge round of applause to The Bengals they are finally heading in the right direction.
Lions 17, Vikings 19
When will The Lions get a W?
Good:
The Lions can still make something happen last time they started this bad they ended 7-9 so there is still hope. D'Andre Swift is still the highlight of their team if they can figure out how to balance I think between him and TJ Hockenson we can finally see a number in the left column.
The Vikings got a stud in Justin Jefferson that guy can catch everything he now was 8 straight games with 5+ receptions and this is his 9th to have 100+ receiving yards (remember this is only his 2nd year)
Bad:
I am not sure who is to blame here, Jared Goff has now lost 8 straight games (including playoffs), he is protecting but that means nothing if it does not translate to wins. The coaching staff needs to sit down and figure why he's trending down so they can fix it or that the 0-17 mark can be in their future.
The Vikings still had issues, they allowed The Lions to take a lead and had to fight to win the game, if they do not start fast and keep leads then The Vikings are not going to win much this year.
Ugly:
What can we say? It was a good game but I am just not sure how The Lions need to get Goff back on track, they have the talent with Swift and Hockenson but if the QB is not in the right state of mind then all that means nothing.
Overall:
The Lions are just in a scary, sad place right now and need to get together to win games. The Vikings have a star in Jefferson throw at him because there is nothing that men cannot catch.
Broncos 19, Steelers 27
The Broncos great start was just a lie.
Good:
The Steelers finally found the balance that they had been missing for so many games. If they can keep the balance, then they can fix the season.
The Broncos rallied around QB Teddy Bridgewater when down by 18 points which is the kind of leadership they have needed since Peyton Manning was there if they can get back to playing as they did in September they can make a run.
Bad:
The Steelers lost JuJu Smith-Schuster to a shoulder injury early during the game, on defense LB Devin Bush was taken out of the game with a leg injury now we see how this is going to affect them moving forward.
September seems like a million years away, that is why I said the Broncos start was a huge lie.
Ugly:
The Broncos pass rush failed to put pressure on the 39-year-old QB and made Najee Harris look like Franco Harris. The Broncos relied on the strong defense during the 3-0 start but now it's like they are non-existent. Add on to that they could not hold on to much-needed INTs put that all together and it was just a disaster in the making.
Overall:
The Steelers found balance but can they keep it? The Broncos need help and bad but it does not look like it's coming any time soon
Dolphins 17, Buccaneers 45
TB12 still owns Miami
Good:
411 yards and 5 TDs for TB12 and The Bucs, then Antonio Brown at 33 years olds became the faster player to 900 receptions in the Super Bowl Area. You can say they had a good day at the beach.
The Dolphins were able to make things happen in the first half with a good mixture of passing the running the ball they were not perfect by any means but had a good balance had they had Tua one could say they might have been able to make it a closer game.
Bad:
Nothing bad here for The Bucs.
The Dolphins have issues all over the place, they had a good thing going into the 4th quarter only down by 7 but somehow they let it go and could not come back.
Ugly:
Not sure what to say here because it is obvious that the offense is built for Tua and without him hurt they are struggling and on defense it is no better. All I can say is I hope Tua comes back because right now it is not pretty.
Overall:
I will say it again!!! TB12 still owns The Dolphins. The Dolphins should be worried but at least they have The Jags next in London so it would be a good bounce-back game for them.
Saints 33, WTF 22
HAIL MARY!!!!!
Good:
The Saints are back on track with Jameis Winston taking all snaps at center, which is a good thing, Winston connected with almost everyone and even the defense stepped up and picked off Heinicke twice while putting pressure on him throughout the whole game.
The only thing Washington did good was in offense which kept them in the game for a little while.
Bad:
The Saints have a lot of injuries but the most hit was the OL, I am wondering how they are going to make it out with all those injuries.
Bad and ugly defensive play for Washington.
Ugly:
Washington came in with high hopes after defeating Atlanta but instead, they allowed 369 yards, 3 drives of 60+ yards, and a Hail Mary. On top of all the defensive issues, Washington lost WR Curtis Samuel/Dyami Brown and Rookie RT Sam Cosmi and RG Brandon Scheff on offense. in the defense, they lost CB Darryl Roberts. Now I am not sure if Washington how Washington can fix the defense with an offense that is just decimated by injuries.
Overall:
The Saints are hurt upfront but are making things happen. Washington on the other hand is in huge trouble moving forward.
Eagles 21, Panthers 18
Another team that lied to us.
Good:
A blocked punt, DaVonta Parker looking like his Alabama self, and Hurts is playing like a franchise QB for The Eagles with that 12-point comeback to beat The Panthers.
The Panthers found a nice holding piece in Chuba Hubbard while CMC is out.
Bad:
They still have work to do but being able to come back from a deficit is a good thing, I am not happy with the fact that they had to make a comeback and they won't be as lucky in the future so they may want to learn how to get and stay ahead.
Sam Darnold has 3 INTs and was sacked 3 times vs a team that had allowed 80+ points and 800+ yards in just two games.
Ugly:
I've said it a million times and ill say it a million it doesn't matter if you have the number 1 defense in the nation if they are on the field for most of the game they will get tired and make mistakes, Carolina's defense was great till the 4th quarter which allowed The Eagles the come back and win the game. For Carolina to get back to what it was in September they need to fix the huge OL issues and connection between Sam and the WRs sp that the defense can stay fresh and be the top defense they were just 2 games ago.
Overall:
The Eagles are showing promise but have a long way to go. The Panthers are looking worse and worse every single game if they do not figure it out, we may say September was a fluke.
Titans 37, Jaguars 19
King Henry’s homecoming was pretty……….TERRIFYING!!! Lol!!!!
Good:
Henry and The Titans ran for 130 yards and 3 TDs, the defense caused and returned a fumble for a TD. Finally, they are looking like The Titans that went to the AFC Championship a few years ago.
The Jaguars are showing promise especially with that TD on 4th and goal so they are showing signs of promise which is good and should be celebrated.
Bad:
The Titan's defense allowed 454 yards vs a team that should have only had 100 yards, they need to find a way on the defensive side of the ball to play complementary football with the offense.
The Jaguars lose the ball too much, add to it they missed an extra point if they want to stop losing then these are the things they are going to have to address and fix asap.
Ugly:
The Jaguars are slowly creeping up to have the sole position of the longest losing skid in NFL History, they only need 6 more losses to get it. Everything in Jacksonville is a dumpster fire especially the coaching staff (I don't mind my coaching partying but not when we are 0-5) If The Jaguars do not start looking within and fixing the issues they will waste a great talent in Lawrence and a huge opportunity with there division so wide open anyone can take charge and run with it.
Overall:
The Titans should be happy but they need to take this momentum and keep winning. The Jaguars get happy with losing cause it's coming.
Patriots 25, Texans 22
Way to close.
Good:
Mac Jones delivered the first come-back win of his NFL career. Jones was able to come up with a 15 play 85-yard drive to get them in FG range with 15 seconds left in the game. Mac Jones is now (in my opinion) the best rookie QB from the draft.
The Texans issue, are not a reflection of rookie QB Davis Mill who did all he could to stay ahead of New England and win. He threw for 312 yards and 3 TDs this just shows Mills can play just needs a little help around him.
Bad:
The Patriots still have an issue keeping the ball. Damien Harris had a chance to increase the lead but he fumbled the ball, if they do not learn to hold on to the ball to keep leads then it's going to be a long season for them.
Too many issues from the Texans and it's all on the staff simple as that.
Ugly:
Like I said the issues for The Texans have zero representation on Rookie QB Davis Mills. He is doing the best he can with what he is given and he's not given a lot, special teams are making dumb mistakes, receivers are dropping passes and on the defense, they can't stop anything. For the Texans right now Mills is the only good thing happening.
Overall:
The Patriots might have something good with Mac Jones but in time we will know if that is the truth, as for The Texans do not waste the great opportunity you have in Davis Mills.
Bears 20, Raiders 9
Dang!!!!
Good:
Josh Jacobs is at it again for The Raiders scoring his 22nd career rushing TD which puts him right behind HOF Marcus Allen (33) as the only Raiders within the first 3 seasons. So they lost but hey at least they can celebrate Jacobs.
The Bears are back on track Fields connected with Allen Robinson more often and look to be he is going to be his safety net, and the defense is finally clicking with sacks on and stopping the ball very happy with The Bears.
Bad:
Do the Raiders know that if they do not win the turnover battle they are 2-22 yet what happen today? They lost it and of course, lost the game. Added that QB Derek Carr is not playing at his top-level it's just not a good place to be right now.
The Bears did make mistakes but overall nothing too bad that can't be fixed.
Ugly:
The Raiders started hot and now they are colder than ice they are losing the turnover battle, they cannot seem to win a game after a divisional loss and of course, they can't seem to score in the opening drive everything is imploding for The Raiders and if they cannot figure it out then that hot start was nothing more than just smoke.
Overall:
The Bears are coming together slowly but surely and The Raiders are nothing but smoke.
Browns 42, Chargers 47
Now that is a shootout!!!!!
Good:
When Justine Herbert came into the league I was very suspicious because I was not sure if he was ready to be a starter in the NFL and Oh boy I was so wrong he now holds the most 300 yard games in the first 2 years with 11. The Chargers are also playing lights out on offense with Ekeler running and catching the ball, then outside is Mike Williams to open everything up even more. One can say first-year head coach Brandon Staley was a great choice for The Chargers (which I thought was going to be a failure).
The Browns were as good as The Chargers in both the running and throwing game, Nick Chubb rushed for 161 yards along with Baker Mayfield's 306 passing yards so yeah it was a total shootout.
Bad:
I will simply say on both sides the defense were both bad. Both allowed over 490 total yards with over 7.0 yards per play and do not get me starter in the individual passing and rushing per play. In the end, both defenses need to reevaluate and try again cause yeah it was bad.
Ugly:
Simple defense.
Overall:
The Chargers and The Browns are contenders and I cannot wait to see them both in the postseason.
Cowboys 44, Giants 20
HOW BOUT THEM COWBOYS?!!!!!!!
Good:
The Cowboys have now given everyone a very important question, since today they did not play at 100% and still dominated how good can this team be?
The Giants did the best with all the injuries they scored 20 points so good job Giants.
Bad:
The Cowboys had a fumble and an INT, both were mistakes on QB Dak Prescott we were just lucked out with the defense standing strong and keeping them off the end zone but that is things that we need to fix asap because real challenges are coming and we cannot play sloppy or it will bit us in the behind.
Look at ugly for this one cause all is bad.
Ugly:
WR Kenny Golladay, CB Rodarius Williams, RB Saquon Barkley, QB Daniel Jones that is just the tip of the iceberg that is the injuries that plague The Giants. We still haven't even talked about all the different OL combinations they have had to use due to injuries, once again I say the injury bug hits another team hard and I am not sure they can overcome it.
Overall:
The Cowboys have a very high ceiling, The Giants just hope to get out of a game with no injuries
49ers 17, Cardinals 10
Closer game that should have.
Good:
The Cardinals are showing that they are the real deal by playing complementary football on both offense and defense.
Trey Lance's first start in the NFL was less than ideal, he was able to make the most of plays with his legs and was able to keep them in the game. I give him a 6/10 for his first start.
Bad:
The Cardinals have been hit by the injury bug with losses in C Rodney Hudson and TE Maxx Williams. They are added to a list of CB Byron Murphy Jr and Marco Williams, as happy as they are with being 5-0 I am not so sure if they can stay undefeated with all those injuries.
The offense did their best with a Rookie QB but no one seemed to want to help him make moves the defense got in a hole early but came back and held The Cardinals to 17 points which is great but that means nothing if the offensive supporting cast can't seem to help open things up or move to let Trey Lance make a play.
Ugly:
I keep seeing people say the 49ers won a moral victory, and yes they did but moral victories do not get you to the postseason so for them to even think about the future and beyond they are going to have to build an offense with Trey Lance in mind.
Overall:
The Cardinals have questions coming soon due to injuries, but they are 5-0 so celebrate. The 49ers have a moral victory, but moving towards the future, that won't be enough.
Bills 38, Chiefs 20
The Chiefs should be worried in my opinion.
Good:
The Bills took the monkey off their back and finally beat The Chiefs, in the win Allen threw for 315 yards and 3 TDs and even had a pick-six on Patrick Mahomes which is as rare as a clear bigfoot photo. Enjoy it Bills Mafia it is your day to have.
Mahomes finished with 272 yards and 2 TDs, and he was the leading rusher in the team, which help keep the game close and that gave The Chiefs a chance to come back and try to win the game.
Bad:
The Bills are playing well and no one can say they are not but even with that they are very inconsistent in the running game, both Zack Moss and Devin Singletary played inconsistently vs a defense that has allowed the second-most rushing yards in the NFL with 146 yards per game. The Bills have always been a passing team first but for them to move as the number 1 contenders in the AFC and in the NFL they need to find complementary football especially against the second-worst rushing defense in the NFL.
The Chief's defense is now their Achilles heel, they are just playing badly. Frank Clark, Chris Jones, and Jarran Reed are supposed to be their best players and yet they are not performing as such add to that the defensive picks they have chosen have not panned out. We have to now ask can they make a fourth appearance in the AFC Championship? Or will they barely make the wild card round?
Ugly:
The Chief's defense is ugly, they have not been what they have been. for them to make it back to the mountain top they will need to figure out how to fix the defense and get Patrick Mahomes back to his MVP self. I believe the best way to do this is maturity, understanding, and as always practice.
Overall:
The Bills are the team to beat in the AFC, while The Chiefs are in serious trouble.
Ravens 31, Colts 25-OT
What a game!!!!!!!
Good:
I've said this before and ill say it again, as long as Lamar Jackson is on the field The Ravens will have a chance to win the game, and what happens? They won the game!!!!! Jackson finished 37 of 43 for 400 yards and 4 TDs. I guess he can be a passer as much as he runs the ball.
The Colts had a 19-point lead with 3 minutes left in the game, Carson Wentz threw for 400 yards. They played great overall and seem to be connecting on all levels as long as they can keep that going maybe they can turn things around and fight for a wild card spot.
Bad:
They came back to win it but even then The Raven's pass defense was just horrible they allowed Carson Wentz to throw for 400 yards and he did it amazingly by picking them off with every single one of his WR and RB. For The Ravens to win in the playoffs and finally make it past the first round of the playoffs they will need to figure out the pass defense or they won't be able to make a comeback vs the lights of The Bills or The Chargers.
Aside from letting the lead go and losing the lead, not having the end it all gene. But the biggest issue is the kicking game of Rodrigo Blankenship was hurt and it showed by missing what would have been a game-winning FG if they have to figure out the kicking game out and fast because they were playing 100% last night till the missed FG which I feel was the knife that took the air our the ball that was The Colts.
Ugly:
I am just not sure what to say here, The Raven played ugly for most of the game but found a way to win, and vice versa The Colts played amazing for most of the game and let the game go. I think in the end both teams have a lot of work on simple as that.
Overall:
The Ravens are winning but are it luck? or are they are just good? The Colts played great but lost it at the end due to their own mistakes.
