Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, Dune: Part Two, and The Wild Robot Reign Supreme at the VES Awards
Beverly Hills, CA , February 13, 2025, -(RYM)- Visual Effects Society Unveils the Magic Behind the Screen at the 23rd Annual VES Awards
The Visual Effects Society (VES) celebrated the artistry and innovation of visual effects at its 23rd annual VES Awards, held at the Beverly Hilton. The ceremony illuminated the remarkable talent behind some of the most captivating visual experiences in film, television, commercials, and gaming, recognizing excellence across 25 distinct categories.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes ascended to the top, claiming the award for Outstanding Photoreal Feature. Dune: Part Two proved a visual powerhouse, garnering four wins across the photoreal feature categories. The Wild Robot charmed its way to victory, taking home four awards in the animated feature arena. On the small screen, Shōgun and The Penguin shared the spotlight, each capturing three awards for their stunning photoreal episode work. Coca-Cola's "The Heroes" emerged victorious in the fiercely competitive commercial category.
The evening also shone a light on extraordinary individuals whose contributions have shaped the industry. Keanu Reeves graced the stage to present the VES Award for Creative Excellence to the acclaimed actor and producer Hiroyuki Sanada (Shōgun). The visionary filmmaker and VFX Supervisor Takashi Yamazaki (Godzilla Minus One) received the VES Visionary Award, bestowed by Michael Dougherty. Dr. Jacquelyn Ford Morie, a true OG Goddess behind virtual reality and immersive technology, was presented with the VES Georges Méliès Award. The comedic talents of The Sklar Brothers kept the evening lively as they made their VES Awards hosting debut.



A constellation of stars joined the celebration, including Kelvin Harrison, Jr., Krys Marshall, Mary Mouser, Russell Hornsby, Tanner Buchanan, Eric Winter, Tia Carrere, and Rachael Appleton of Autodesk, who presented the VES-Autodesk Student Award. The awards served as a testament to the dedication and ingenuity of the visual effects artists who transform imagination into reality.
