LOS ANGELES -(RYM)- This week RYM Media had the opportunity to attend an exclusive screening for the upcoming film Ambulance starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Eiza Gonzalez set to premiere this Friday, April 8, in theaters everywhere.
RYM Media Reporter Kittie Kaboom was at the premiere check out her review below!
The new action thriller from Michael Bay is 1% JOHN Q, 1% HEAT, and 1% SPEED. I realize that that number only equals three, which means the other 97% is pure Michael Bay at his best! Which is to say that this movie is a true adrenaline rush from beginning to end. From the very first tension filled scene, you knew you were about to be entertained in a way that only Michael Bay can!
Two of the foiiiinest leading men in Hollywood Jake Gyllenhaal (Danny) and Yahya Abdul-Mateen (Will) along with the drop dead gorgeous ingenue Eiza Gonzalez (Cam) create a phenomenal and believable multi-layered storyline that could never happen IRL. These three have an onscreen chemistry that cannot be denied, but the real draw is the riveting storyline despite it following the formula of shoot’em up bang bang, car chases ad nauseam.
Gyllenhaal is the cocky, manipulative one that believes his will is the ONLY way, and his plan will align despite everything speaking to the contrary. He is on the FBI’s most wanted list while living in plain sight as a wealthy car enthusiast, and his pushy, hot-headed demeanor is palatable. While Danny runs torrid, his adopted brother Will is the picture of sane thinking and a rational mindset thrust into a completely irrational scenario.
He comes to his brother for financial help, but ends up succumbing to a proverbial freight train that promises a pot of gold at the end… IF he can juuuust maneuver like a skilled pro driver while sopping up the bloody leaks. Their obvious bond is tested repeatedly as Cam becomes a hostage of their failed bank robbery. She is forced to silence her firecracker temperament long enough to avoid getting killed by the insane amount of flying bullets and explosions, while trading in her EMT badge for a Surgeon’s scalpel inside a moving vehicle.
A big shout out to the Rapper turned Actor Wale (from our hometown of Washington, DC) who makes an appearance as Danny’s assistant. I am surprisingly impressed and super happy for his glow up. With that said, I have to say, come onnnnn!!!! With only your imagination to draw from, but reading this kind of heart racing premise and ridiculous storyline, ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?!!?
This movie is a DEFINITE MUST SEE for everyone with eyes! When the mood to detach from the collective MESS that is the World right now hits you, and it will; I suggest you do yourself a favor by unplugging from real life and tuning into make believe with all the bells and whistles that make action thrillers great. Ambulance is a spectacular distraction, so hold on tight, and try not to spill your popcorn from the wild ride!
Ambulance Friday, April 8, only in theaters.
