Honduras Implements New Government I.D.

LOS ANGELES, CA -(RYM)- For the first time in history Hondurans will be able to apply for Honduran identification cards abroad. May 2nd 2022 marks the initial efforts of the Honduran government to implement a new and more secure government I.D. card that will be more easily accessible by making their equivalent of the Vital Records Office accessible to the public year round. During a recent interview with Maria Fernanda Rivera Fiallos, the Consul General of Honduras in Los Angeles, Fallos said “Some [officials] would come once or twice a year to provide that service … but from now on, this will be a permanent service, not just in the Los Angeles consulates but all of the 14 Honduran consulates worldwide.”

The foremost goal of this policy change is to empower Hondurans living abroad to more easily claim rights back in their homeland by allowing them the accessibility to do things like open a bank account or lay stake to land and in turn, inherit their ancestral homes. This policy change is expected to 1.5 million Hondurans in the USA with 140k of those people residing in Southern California, however There are Honduran embassies where this service will be offered in AZ, NV UT and HI. 

All data will be recorded onsite and sent back to Honduran capital for verification before approval, however, Consul General Victor Ferrari, projects current turnaround times within 4 weeks, with no current backlog of applications for Honduran issued I.D. cards. It is required to have an appointment at this time in order to apply for your Honduran citizen identification card.
