Presidente de Music VIP y Manager de Grupo Firme, Isael Gutiérrez platica con RYM sobre su nueva nominación de los Latin Grammy’s, llegando a niveles increíbles, y como siguen rompiendo estereotipos en el que hacer de la música regional mexicana, y de la música en su conjunto.

LOS ÁNGELES, CA -(RYM)- Verano 2019, Ruby's Café en Oxnard, California. Un club nocturno icónico con una capacidad de un par de cientos de personas. Ha llegado algunos de los nombres más importantes de la música regional mexicana. A medianoche, una camioneta se detiene en la parte trasera y sale un grupo de personas jóvenes y apasionadas listas para subir al escenario para su próximo concierto. Nada menos que Grupo Firme. Esa primera noche, los fanáticos ya se estaban volviendo locos mientras intentaban desde todos los ángulos vislumbrar al grupo antes de subir al escenario. Conocidos en ese momento como una de las mejores bandas de versiones, pero la grandeza apenas había comenzado….
Avance rápido hasta 2021, Grupo Firme está encabezando las carteleras, llenando estadios, rompiendo récords y ganando premios Grammy. Todo mientras rompe la norma de lo que significa ser un grupo en la industria de la música. Ahora, en 2022, los récords se están acumulando, ya que el grupo incluso busca romper el récord del legendario Vicente Fernández en el icónico Zócalo de México; todo mientras siguen haciendo lo que aman hacer.
Esta mañana se ha dado a conocer la lista de nominados al premio más respetado de la música latina, los Latin Grammy, con Grupo Firme nuevamente nominado. A lo largo de la mañana, Isael Gutiérrez [Presidente de Music VIP y Gerente de Grupo Firme] se dirige al aeropuerto para su próxima parada con el grupo. Durante este tiempo, se sienta con RYM en una entrevista telefónica para compartir cómo siguen llegando los éxitos y la pasión detrás de Grupo Firme.
Isael, amigo, es un honor volver a hablar contigo de nuevo y muchas gracias por darnos esta oportunidad. En los últimos años, los hemos visto lanzarse a niveles nunca antes vistos. Es una locura pensar en eso, ya que la pandemia no te detuvo en absoluto. Los niveles en los que ha aterrizado son increíblemente notables en la industria. ¿Ahora bien, este año ustedes han sido nominados una vez más para los Latin Grammy, así que debo preguntarles cómo se sienten ahora con la noticia?
Pues feliz no? Haha. Ser honesto cuando uno se propone algo. A veces cuesta mucho trabajo, tiempo, que esforzarse mucho para conseguirlo, pero al final día se da cuenta de que uno consigue todo que se propone y por lo mío y por lo nuestro sonar y trabajar muchísimo que los sueños se hagan realidad. De todo que nos está pasando, que son muchísimas situaciones, y momentos, pues muy padres, y muy hermosos, ha sido para él sueno que hemos trabajado para conseguirlo.
Claro, sabes todavía me acuerdo de la primera que los conocí en ese club en Oxnard, CA en Ruby's Café. El escenario era más chico ese día que a lo que ya están acostumbrados, pero ustedes tenían una vibra que de verdad seria como adentro de un estadio. Ya en estos días están llenando estadios cada semana. ¿Para ti en eso, como tienen el pensamiento de todavía seguir a esos niveles?
Sabes Vanessa, pues vimos en su momento hablando personalmente, tengo mucho tiempo trabajando, mucho tiempo en el negocio de la música. Trabajando, entendiéndolo, aprendiendo mucho, todo para que siempre sonando que el día que llega a que pudiera un artista o un grupo, que tuviera cariño. No solo de uno, pero de la gente, la aceptación, su música, [una cosa, su música, otras, el show] un evento en vivo. ¿De tener que aplicar todo en la mente dice que es lo correcto, no?
El día de hoy lo hecho lo he llevado a todo, y por eso el resultado de pasar de un nightclub de 100 personas a pasar a estadios a 40 o 50 mil es de aplicar todo al mismo tiempo y pues valla. ¿Es ver materializado, tú sueno, no crees? ¡Absolutamente! También ayuda trabajar con otros profesionales que si saben como es esto. Ha sido evolutivo y rápido. Así entonces se tuvo que prender rápido. Tuvimos que ponernos al nivel donde la gente nos puso. Era todo por la gente que llegamos al primer nivel. ¿En eso tenemos que hacer todo en ese sentido, no? Tenemos que hacer todo para el espectáculo, la planeación, un desarrollo del primer nivel, y creo que al día de hoy, pues la gente lo dice todo. Ellos lo comentan cuando van a un evento de grupo firme o escuchan su música, y por eso llega al número 1.
Estos días se ve que mucho de ustedes se hace viral. En eso este pasado año hemos visto colaboraciones con talentos grandísimos de Maluma a Banda el Recodo. Se ha sido algo increíble y ya hasta están entrando a temas de la música urbana. ¿Cómo comenzó eso con ustedes?
Pues número uno, Grupo Firme es un grupo joven. Eduin apenas cumplió 29 años, y los chavos todos son muy jóvenes. Entonces todos tienen la misma tendencia. No porque son música regional mexicana, o música mexicana, simplemente es música. La música no tiene fronteras, no tiene barreras, lenguaje, no tiene un color o raza. Es música y el día de hoy con esa Interacción que todavía se potencializó con la pandemia. Por las plataformas digitales, las redes, que en esos días fue nuestro único contacto con el mundo exterior.
Pero mas que nada son jóvenes, y así se interactúan. Ya no hay unos qué nomas, son de botas con sombrero y tienen que cantar solo banda, o ranchero. Al grupo le gusta de todo. Personalmente, pienso "bienvenidos" eso de fusionar la música y al final del día el fan le gusta tanto escuchar a Banda El Recodo, o Vicente Fernández, o puede ser Maluma, o Río Roma, Reik, Camilo. De lo que le gusta a uno, lo que ha sido parte de su vida. El día de hoy la palabra es: Fusionar. De compartir varios estilos de la música, y eso para nosotros nos ayudó romper barreras. ¿La actitud musical es amplia y todo el mundo tiene ese sentido, no crees?
Isael, según todas nuestras conversaciones, siempre sabes cómo hacer un punto válido. Bueno, sé que tienes que subirte a tu avión pronto, pero si tienes algo que te gustaría decirle a tu audiencia, ¿qué sería?
Yo a lo personal, alguien que también lo vive, hemos dicho tantas palabras de tanto agradecimiento a los fans y al público. Así que lo único que se puede decir mas es gracias a todo el mundo y nosotros a darle mas a los que tienen q. Hay tener que ser responsable con el cariño y lo valoramos mas que todo.
Ok, Ok, última pregunta. Ustedes realmente comenzaron a alcanzar el éxito viral por hacer canciones covers, pero también los hizo controvertidos para los profesionales de la industria en sus primeros años. Dicho esto, ¿seguirán llegando los covers?
Sin duda Vanesa. Nos encanta hacer las canciones de portada. Esa es la música con la que nos criamos, la música que es parte de lo que somos. No vemos ninguna razón para dejar de hacer lo que amamos y lo que aman nuestros fanáticos.

Exclusive: Reaching the Sky with Grupo Firme
LOS ANGELES, CA -(RYM)- 2019, Ruby’s Café in Oxnard, California. An iconic Nightclub with a capacity of a couple of hundred people max host to some of the biggest names in regional Mexican music. At midnight a van stops in the back and outcomes a group of young, and passionate individuals ready to take the stage for their next gig. None other than Grupo Firme. That first night, the fans were already going crazy as they tried from all angles to catch a glimpse of the group before they make their way to the stage. Known at the time as one of the greatest cover bands, but the greatness had only just begun.
Fast-forward to 2021, Grupo Firme is topping billboard charts, selling out stadiums, breaking records, and winning Grammys. All while breaking the norm of what it means to be a group in the music industry. Now in 2022, the records are stacking high as the group is even looking to break the record of the legendary Vicente Fernandez in the Iconic Zocalo of Mexico; all while still doing what they love to do.
This morning, the list of nominees for the most respected award in Latin music, The Latin Grammy’s, has been released with Grupo Firme once again nominated. Throughout the morning, Isael Gutierrez [Music VIP President, and Grupo Firme Manager] is on his way to the airport for his next stop with the group. During this time, he sits down with RYM in a phone interview to share how the successes keep coming, and the passion behind Grupo Firme.
Isael, amigo, it is an honor to speak with you again, and, thanks so much for giving us this opportunity. In the past few years, we have seen you guys just launch to levels never seen before. It is crazy to think about, as the pandemic did not stop you at all. The levels where you have landed are unbelievably remarkable in the industry. Now this year you guys have been nominated once again for the Latin Grammys, so I must ask you how are you feeling right now with the news?
So happy right? Haha. Being honest when one proposes something. Sometimes it takes a lot of work, time, to make a lot of effort to achieve it, but at the end of the day you realize that you get everything you set out to do and for mine and for our dream, and work hard to make dreams come true. Of everything that is happening to us, which are many situations, and moments, well, very cool, and very beautiful, it has been for him a dream that we have worked to achieve it.
Sure, you know I still remember the first time I met them at that club in Oxnard, CA at Ruby's Café. The stage was smaller that day than what you're used to, but you had a vibe that would really be like inside a stadium. Already these days they are filling stadiums every week. For you in that, how do you have the thought of still continuing at those levels?
You know Vanessa, well we saw at the time speaking personally, I have been working for a long time, a long time in the music business. Working, understanding it, learning a lot, all so that always dreaming that the day that an artist or a group could arrive, they would have affection. Not just one, but the people, the acceptance, their music, [one thing, their music, others, the show] a live event. Having to apply everything in the mind says that it is the right thing to do, right?
Today, I've done everything, and that's why the result of going from a nightclub with 100 people to stadiums with 40 or 50 thousand is to apply everything at the same time and that's it. Is seeing materialized, you dream, don't you think?
Absolutely!
It also helps to work with other professionals who know what this is like. It has been evolutionary and fast. So then it had to be turned on quickly. We had to get to the level where people put us. It was all because of the people who got to the first level. In that, we have to do everything in that sense, right? We have to do everything for the show, the planning, top-level development, and I think that today, well, people say it all. They comment on it when they go to an event or listen to their music, and that's why it reaches number 1.
These days, it is seen that you go viral a lot. In that this past year we have seen collaborations with great talents from Maluma to Banda el Recodo. It has been something incredible, and they are even getting into the world of Musica Urbana. How did that begin?
Well, number one, Grupo Firme is a young group. Eduin just turned 29, and the kids are all very young. So they all have the same tendency. Not because they are regional Mexican music, or Mexican music, it is simply music. Music has no borders, no barriers, no language, no color or race. It's music and today with that Interaction that was still potentiated by the pandemic. Through digital platforms, social media networks, which in those days was our only contact with the outside world.
But more than anything, they are young, and that is how they interact. There are no more than just, they are wearing boots with hats, and they have to sing only banda, or ranchero. The group likes everything. Personally, I think "welcome" to merging music and at the end of the day the fan likes listening to Banda El Recodo, or Vicente Fernández, or it could be Maluma, or Río Roma, Reik, Camilo. Of what one likes, what has been part of his life. Today, the word is: Fusion. To share various styles of music, and that, for us, helped us break down barriers. The musical attitude is broad and everyone has that sense, don't you think?
Isael, per all of our conversations, you always know how to make a valid point. Well, I know you have you get on your plane soon, but If you have something you would like to say to your audience, what would it be?
I personally, someone who also lives it, have said so many words of gratitude to the fans and the public. So the only thing that can be said more is thanks to everyone, and us to give more to those who have that affection for us. You have to be responsible with love, and we value it more than anything.
Ok, ok, last question. You guys really started hitting viral success for making covers, but it also made you guys controversial to professionals in the industry in your early years. With that being said, are the covers going to keep coming?
Without question Vanessa. We love doing the cover tracks. That is the music we were raised with, the music that is a part of who we are. We see no reason to stop doing what we love, and what our fans love.
