Hershey’s 2021 Mock Draft
Opinion
SAN ANTONIO -(RYM)- Just a few weeks till the 2021 NFL Draft, so you know exactly what time it is MOCK DRAFT TIME!!!!! I will have only the first round and of course no trades (okay maybe some trade). So let us get started.
JACKSONVILLE YOU ARE ON THE CLOCK!!!!!!!
Jacksonville Jaguars- Trevor Lawrence QB Clemson
Come on, we all know who is going here. Urban Meyer would have never left his nice convertible studio job if he knew this once-in-a-lifetime talent was not going to be in the draft. T-Law is a 6-6, 215LBs, big arm, accurate and mobile, he is Andrew Luck and no one would pass Luck so why would Meyer pass on him?
New York Jets- Justin Fields QB Ohio State
I know what everyone is going to say “they are going to take Zack Wilson”, and I hope they but let us be serious for one minute. New Head Coach Robert Saleh is a defensive-minded player and past coaches like that like QB that take chances and have that gut feeling for plays and I mean Fields has that I mean did you the game vs. Clemson. Due to that fact, I have a strong feeling that they will take him at 2.
San Francisco 49ers- Zack Wilson QB BYU
Wilson had an amazing last year at BYU and one heck of a pro day. He is very smart and has one heck of an arm, now there have been some reports that he has some “character concerns” and that is coming from an NFC Director and many other writers. Yet many of his teammates and coaches have come forward to protect him, so if it is true he would benefit from seating behind Jimmy G and learning the ropes but if the claims are a lie then we can say seating behind Jimmy G will only make him a much greater QB.
Atlanta Falcons- Kyle Pitts, TE Florida
Atlanta has many places to go with the fourth pick, they can trade it away or keep it but if it were me, I would 100% take Kyle Pitts TE. Yes, The Falcons have Hayden Hurts but how can you pass up a unicorn-like Pitts, he is a match-up nightmare and arguably the best overall prospect in the draft for sure the best non-QB prospect. He is 6-5, 245, and a wingspan like a Condor so why would they not take him here.
Cincinnati Bengals- Rashawn Slater OL Northwestern
Everyone is saying that they will take Ja’marr Chase Burrow's former teammate but this would be a dumb choice because it does not matter how many weapons Burrow has it won't matter if he has no one to protect him. This is why I have them taking Slater. He is versatile and can play all three positions on the line Tackle, Guard, or Center which is what you need in today's NFL.
Denver Broncos Trade with Miami- Trey Lance
Lance is a young guy with a very high ceiling, they do not need him to start right away which is good, they have good weapons and a good OL so overall Lance can learn and grow with a young team.
Detroit Lions- DeVonta Smith WR Alabama
Lions have a young worth wild QB in Jared Goff, assuming they believe in him which is why they traded for him then they are going to build around him. They have an okay OL so they need weapons now which is why I picked Heisman Winner DeVonta Smith here they need to give Goff weapons and who better than Smith he is the best route runner in the draft by far and the YAC ability is number one this will truly help Good flourish in Detroit and since they are both young they can grow together.
Carolina Panthers- Penie Sewell OL Oregon
Sam Darnold has been sacked so much they need someone to protect him, Sewell is great here they can put him at LT and he can start from day one. He is still at the 8th overall pick.
Miami Dolphins Trade With Denver- Ja’Marr Chase WR LSU
Best WR prospect in the draft even over Heisman winner Devonta Smith, Chase connected 84 times for 1700 and 20 TD. Chase gives Tua a real number one WR, yes they have Fuller and Parker but they are only signed for 1 year and 3 years respectively so giving Tua weapons is really what he needs to take that next step in his NFL career. The only time I will change this is if Kyle Pitts drops to the 9th spot if Pitts is still on the board Miami will take him.
Dallas Cowboys- Patrick Surtain II Alabama
Dallas needs help in the secondary and cheap help at that, which makes this pick a no-brainer, Surtain is great and reunites with his old college teammate Trevon Diggs so add chemistry to the mix. Sutrain is also the soundest corner in the draft and would fit perfectly in Dan Quinn's defense.
New York Giants- Jaylen Waddle WR Alabama
Daniel Jones is in year 3 and he has no real weapons outside of RB Barkley, with most of the huge WRs off the board, Waddle makes sense here. He is electric, fast, and can split defenders like butter. He does have some health issues so we have to wait and see how that turns out but if he is healthy this would be a great pick for a young QB that needs weapons.
Philadelphia Eagles- Micah Parsons LB Penn State
No one player is going to fix all the issues the Eagles have but Parsons would fit perfectly here, he is amazing off the edge and great at tackling in space which is needed when you are facing Zeke and Barkley twice a year, he is also great with covering tight ends. They need an immediate Standout and Parsons is the guy for that.
Los Angeles Chargers- Christian Darrisaw OL Virginia Tech
The Chargers signed C Corey Linsley and OG Matt Feiler, but they still need help at LT and with an amazing 2020 season Darrisaw is the perfect way to address the situation.
Minnesota Vikings- Alijah Vera-Tucker OL USC
They cut Riley Reiff so addressing the OL is a top priority here, but more importantly, they need someone to protect Cousins blindside and Vera-Tucker is the man for the job here he played LT at USC so it will be a natural spot for him.
New England Patriots- Mac Jones QB Alabama
They have Cam for another year, they just lost the only weapon at WR with Edelman retiring, so it would be better for them to get a weapon but let us be serious they are going after QB here Jones is accurate and has great timing with soft touch and anticipation he may not be as mobile as Cam but with Josh McDaniels as the OC he can have a high ceiling.
Arizona Cardinals- Caleb Farley CB Virginia Tech
The second best CB in the draft, he fits perfect in Arizona since they had issues last year stopping the pass, and with Patrick Peterson leaving Farley can fit right in he has a great upside with his size and speed, yes he has some injury concerns which is why he drops to number 16 but this is a high-risk high reward kind of pick.
Las Vegas Raiders- Jackson Carman OL Clemson
Raiders need help in the OL since they let go of all they had, Carman is an athletic 340LB LT, which is exactly what they need right now.
Pittsburgh Steelers Trade with Miami- Najee Harris RB Alabama
The Steelers need to improve their rushing attack, so they trade up to get their guy with the 18th pick. The last time the Steelers picked an RB in the first round was 1972 can you guess who that was?...............HOF Franco Harris, Najee does it all at Alabama so if Franco can change the tides as he did for them then we can say Najee can do the same.
The Washington Football Team- Alex Leatherwood OL Alabama
LT has been a huge issue for the WFT, especially now that they are in QB limbo they need someone to protect the blind side for whoever ends up at Center. Leatherwood is an excellent pick here due to his strength and his ability to stop elite talent on the defensive side, he can also run block which is good because they seem like they are going to lean on the run a lot in 2021.
Chicago Bears- Treven Jenkins OL Oklahoma State
The bears are not going to trade up for a QB cause will they need help in a million other places and with the pick up of Andy Dalton they can focus on the other areas, one of which is the OL this is why they take Jenkins he can line up on both the Left and Right side which is perfect and his played vs elite talent so he will be able to handle himself in the NFL.
Indianapolis Colts- Azeez Ojulari Edge Georgia
The Colts have a small issue at Defense with Houston a free agent they need someone to pair next to Buckner and Ojulari fits here perfectly. He is overall the best edge rusher in the class so even though they do need to address the OL it would be a mistake to pass on Ojulari with the 21st pick.
Tennessee Titans- Kwity Paye Edge Michigan
My fantasy team from last year is better than that of the Titans a season ago, and we did not play with Defensive players so that should tell you all you need to know about the Titans need at defense and that is where Paye comes in, he is physical and will be a great fit next Bud Dupree. He is still trying to grow into the position but he can learn a lot from Dupree here.
Baltimore Ravens Trade with Jets- Terrace Marshall Jr. WR LSU
Ravens need weapons for Lamar and this is why they trade up to take the best WR that is still on the board. Marshall is a 6-3 200LB TD catching machine. He only played in 7 games for LSU but he totaled 10 TD which is greatly needed in Baltimore.
Miami Dolphins Trade with Steelers- Jaelan Phillips Edge Miami (FL)
Phillips comes into the draft with a lot of health questions which begs the question if he's healthy will he drop this low? I think he will be a first-round talent no matter what, plus he's a perfect fit for Miami.
Jacksonville Jaguars- Jayson Oweh Edge Penn State
18 is the number here, can anyone guess what it stands for?............. If you didn't guess it is the number of sacks the Jaguars had last season. Urban has his QB of the future now they need help on the other side of the ball and Oweh fits great here he can be an immediate contributor on the defense.
Cleveland Browns- Gregory Rousseau Edge Miami
Gregory has a subpar pro day which he needed to have that is why he drops to the Browns at the 26th pick, he did opt out of the 2020 season but he has a great upside which is the reason the Browns take him. He is not a day one starter but that is okay as long as he learns he can become a starter quickly.
New York Jets Trade with Baltimore- Travis Etienne RB Clemson
The Jet’s took Fields with the number 2 pick now they need to build around him and give him weapons Etienne is the second best RB in the Draft so why not take him with the 27th pick. He tallied 1,000 all-purpose yards and is the ideal RB for OC Mike LaFleur, Etienne can explode in the run and is great in the passing game opening up the gamebook for Justin Fields.
New Orleans Saints- Zaven Collins LB Tulsa
The Saints just lost Drew Brees to retirement so they have a lot to look at in the draft and free agency, but they just need players that can be day 1 starters and Collins is the guy for that. He is a 6-5 LB that can cover in space and get to the QB.
Green Bay Packers- Levi Onwuzurike DL Washington
The Packers should go out and get a weapon for Rodgers but if history serves as a reminder of anything they won't do that so let us look at the defense side for them. They need depth in the DL so I went with the best pick still on the board Levi Onwuzurike out of Washington. He did not play in 2020 but did play in the senior bowl and shows amazing speed and strength which was backed up at his pro day so he is a great fit here.
Buffalo Bills- Tyson Campbell CB Georgia
Buffalo has one of the best CB in the game in Tre White but past him who else do they have? So depth is where they need to go. Campbell is long and physical which will blend well with the way the Bills are wanting to play but what attracted me to the pick is that he has a lot of room to improve as the season goes on.
Kansas City Chiefs-Jalen Mayfield OL Michigan
The Chiefs saw what life is like without an OL in the SB and then they let go of Eric Fisher and Mitchell Schwartz that is why they address the OL with the 31st pick and take Mayfield who took on DROY Chase Young and held his own against him in 2019.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Landon Dickerson OL Alabama
Not much to say here they bring back almost everyone that won the SB so depth is more of a concern so why not take an OL to keep TB12 safe. Dickerson played great at Alabama and would fit great in Tampa. =
